You’ve Probably Got 5, 7 or 10 Secrets to Share
I did a quick search of text in page titles via Google, for “## secrets” to see how often people use the word “secrets” preceded by a number. I went from 1 secret out to 36 (written as a number). I also checked where numbers are written out (e.g. “three” instead of “3”) and the trend is broadly the same until you get into the 20’s in which case people seldom use the number written out.
Here’s the data – as you can see there is a trend towards more secrets having lower frequency with spikes: 5, 7 and 10 secrets in page titles are very popular and to a lesser extent there is are spikes around 12, 15, 20 and 21 secrets. (click on image to expand)
In many cases the top result in google for these “## secrets” searches is an article from buzzfeed.com, though for them they have a big spike in articles with 19 secrets and 21 secrets (each have twice as many as they have articles with 10 secrets in the title). Do they know something everyone else doesn’t? Probably!
So keep in mind as you plan your next clickbait adventure…
